Sober Sisters: Gatherings Without the Hangover
If you saw our “Secret’s” list for January, you would have seen that I’m looking to do more activities this month that don’t involve alcohol. Not that I mind a nice cocktail happy hour or delicious wine night with my friends, it’s just that coming off the holidays, I want a little break.
Here’s how we’re taking it coming up:
2025 BINGO Making
I saw this on instagram the other day and I thought it was the greatest idea for a fun craft-ish night. It involves as little or as much art skill as you want, so literally great for everyone.
I’ve seen a few of these ever since this one, but I love how they framed their to cross of with expo markers. It’s a great girl’s night that doesn’t have to be surrounded by anything but love and uplifting those gal pals!
Shopping list:
8 x 11 paper (cardstock might be better)
pens/markers/paint/highlighters - whatever you fancy
Axe-Throwing, Escape Room, Rage Room +
@henrykobutra
I went axe-throwing for the first time last week and I had the BEST time! I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did - and I wasn’t very good at all.
Trying out new activities with friends in places that require planning and action without the alcohol makes it a fun way to have that childlike play dates that we aren’t as often privy to as adults.
A few places we’ve tried:
AxeVentures: They have axe throwing and smash rooms
Spirit-Free Bars
While activities and craft nights sound good and all, sometimes you just want to getaway to a cute bar and chat with your friends. Ambiance, music and total vibes.
With the rise of the Alcohol-Free Bars opening all over the country, we’re seeing a push for more social settings whether your group is sober, sober-ish or just taking the night off.
More and more NA options and delicious mocktails are making it so that you aren’t necessarily missing the taste or even the “buzz” in some cases.
HGW
@chriscantlose
Otherwise known by my friends and I as “Hot Girl Walks.” We grab a coffee, water or tea and explore different neighbors and parks within our cities. We chat and get a nice workout in in the meantime.
Walking and chatting with a friend during a low impact HGW makes the time go by extremely fast. Not only is it nice to have vent sessions or work through some thoughts or work things, it become one of my favorite activities.
