How to Create a Design Plan Moodboard on Your Computer

via the design log

If you didn’t already hear - I mean, how is that even possible?! - TDL Project Planners are LIVE now on Amazon (currently for just $5.99!)

That leads us to today and our mini lesson on creating realistic design plans and moodboards using the little keys at your figure tips.

Why is this going to help you? When it comes to planning out any sort of renovation, we want to see how things work together, and while we all could just go out and pick up the materials, the reality is, it’s much easier to jump start the process with your computer before you require physical product.

Why we choose to work with Canva?

…well, it’s easy! It really is geared towards the every person. We use their affordable professional option, which gives us the ability to remove the background from sourced items. That means we can easily layer them.

See below:

Grab fabric samples, hardware, stone material and more and put it together to see if the vibe is still leaning towards your ideal look.

A lot of companies will already show a cut square of the upholstery to choose from or you can just pull from the furniture piece itself. Use a sofa upholstery to compare to pillows that you want, etc.

This could also help you see the similarities and differences in metal finishes. One thing to always remind yourself is that everyone’s computers show something different, so use this as a guide to see if you like it before going and grabbing hard material.

Crate & Barrel are an example of close up fabric shots.

Can you do this without the “professional” account? Yes, of course, but you will lose the feature for background removal. That is not 100% necessary, just gives an overall more pulled together look.

There are tons of programs you can use, but we find that Canva is the one that made it easiest for us and for clients to send us their own inspiration!
